Help with Using this Site
Signposting to Links
This website is primarily a means to locate and access information on other sites - it is a signposting portal or gateway. Information about these sites is held in a single database which delivers filtered links on categorised pages. Each page has a brief introduction, followed by a list of relevant sites. Clicking a heading or logo for any of these links takes you to that site in a new browser window, which should be closed after use.
By clicking the right-hand
button, a panel will appear which allows the links on that page to be searched by keyword in the title or description and by category. Clicking the
button will extend the search panel and allow searching by geographic area and the selection of a range of ways to list the links: alphabetically (default); by category; by popularity; or by recency. It is also possible to select for listing of only the link titles.
The links database can be viewed as a whole by clicking 'Search all Links' on the right-hand panel about Peak Pathfinder. Here the same search and listing options can be applied to all the links, enabling you to filter them in ways appropriate to your needs.
Other Information
Under 'Peak Pathfinder' at the top of the left-hand navigation menu there is a subset of pages with information relating to Peak Pathfinder and the Peak District Rural Action Zone. This includes a Documents repository that can be searched in the same way as the Links database.
Information is available from some relevant sites by RSS Feeds - click the link on the right-hand panel. Below this some forthcoming events are listed, which links to a fuller searchable listings page.
Viewing
This site is best viewed at a screen width of 1024. MS Internet Explorer is the browser of choice to utilise all the effects and facilities on these web pages.
Navigation
The left-hand navigation menu lists the main content pages. The map above takes you to pages about the areas of the Rural Action Zone. The site can also be navigated from the Site Map. Some key ancillary pages are linked to on the right-hand panels. The bar at the bottom of each page moves the focus to the top of the page and the menu.
Search Engines
In the banner on each page there are direct seach boxes for the Links and Documents.
Access Options
Top left are options to make the text larger and/or zoom the whole window - this last feature only works with Internet Explorer. If Cookies are enabled on your browser, the text options will apply to all subsequent pages of the site.
The facility to make the text bigger may be preferable to changing browser View-Text Size settings, as it predominately adjusts just the content text without distorting the layout. However, the text sizes throughout the pages have been chosen to view reasonably at Internet Explorer's View-Text Size of 'Larger' and below.
Printing
Your browser will print just the content of the page without the menus or header. The content should fit to A4 paper width if the margins of the printer are properly adjusted.
Images
The images at top right are all from the Peak District: Thorpe Cloud; Mam Tor; The Winnats; and Kinder.
