Map Staffordshire Moorlands Derbyshire Dales High Peak Rural Action Zone

Derbyshire Dales

Formed in 1974, originally under the name of West Derbyshire, the district adopted its current name in 1988. It was formed as a merger of Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth urban districts along with Ashbourne Rural District and Bakewell Rural District.  Derbyshire Dales District Council is based in Matlock.

The District covers about a third of Derbyshire and has a population of around 69,700 people. The Derbyshire Dales is one of Britain's most scenic areas. It includes much of the Peak District National Park.

Following their review of parliamentary representation in Derbyshire, the Boundary Commission for England has formed a new constituency called Derbyshire Dales.
